Quick and Easy Paleo / Primal Snacks

Every Sunday I have this ritual of making a bunch of snacks that I will eat use for the rest of the weak. They are useful as hell for some quick eating. General snacking is not a great option, especially if you want to lose weight, but if you are already at your ideal weight, then a snack here or there is no harm.

A few of my favourites are:

Coconut Oil Super Balls

Prep time 10minutes.

Get some extra virgin coconut oil, add some ground almonds or ground macadamia (or any other nut), add some whey protein (optional) and some cocoa or ground coffee to suit. Mix it all together, and roll them into small balls. Chuck them in your fridge and bang, small balls of fatty/protein energy.

Jerky

Prep time: 15minutes. Drying Time: Up to 8hrs

Dry your own, or buy some from a reputable supplier. Awesome.

Eggs

Prep Time: 15minutes.

Boil a dozen eggs. Peel them, chuck them in a bag with some salt, pepper and whatever other spices you enjoy. (I like curry, cumin and some chilli powder). Seal the bag and shake it like crazy. Chuck them in the fridge and munch away. All tasty protein and fat.

Cup o’ Coffee with Cream (Lots of it!)

Prep Time: 5mins.

Yes this is a snack. Make yourself a nice cup of coffee, and empty a bunch of fatty cream into it. Caffeine to boost your mind and suppress your hunger, with plenty of cream to give you energy to burn. Can’t lose.

Excellent;

I like to use 88% chocolate squares. You gave me the idea of melting coconut oil with these squares.

Haha, excellent typo! Unless you meant it, in which case….

My personal desertish favourite:

Ingredients:
1 Can of Coconut Cream (the thick, full fat stuff).
Some raw cocoa powder or shaved 85% plus dark chocolate
Some crushed nuts (almonds, macadamia etc)
Shredded Coconut

Method:
Open can and (if possible) separate the thickest parts from the watery parts (it helps if the can has been stood still for a few days.
Place cream in a bowl and throw in the cocoa powder or dark choc (maybe both) and whip it, whip it good. When nice and whipped place bowl in fridge to set for at lease 30 mins. Lick the beaters.

Remove, top with nuts and shredded coconut. Devour like a clever little caveman.

*note – is also very nice poured over sliced bananas if you eat them.
