KFC Double coming to Oz!

by Paleo Rob on 29/03/2011

The famous KFC Double Down from the US is coming to Australia! The “conventional” health fanatics are up in arms about this high fat snack, which rather than bread uses two chicken pieces to hold it together, but how should us paleo-minded folks rate it?

The nutritional stats on the ‘burger’ can be found here.

As you can see each original recipe KFC Double per serve has:

  • 22.3 g of Fat
  • 47.2 g of Protein
  • 17.8 g of Carbohydrates

Which works out by weight to be a Fat/Protein/Carb ratio of 10.5% / 22.2% / 17.8%

So as far as macronutrient ratios go, it doesn’t look too bad. However what we also need to consider is that this is fast food at the end of the day, so the food quality is crap to say the least and zeus knows what franken-food additives you will ingest!

However end of the day it comes down to yourself. If you feel like a change or need your fast food fix, the KFC Double isn’t a bad choice!

Hi Paleo Rob,

It does look like a good low carb fast food option! Although of course not technically a paleo one.
I did notice your ratios were a bit off though, i worked it out to be:
43.5% Fat
41% Protein
15.5% Carbs

P.s Enjoy the site, keep up the good work! 🙂

Sorry should have mentioned I calculated those numbers by weight (i.e per 100g of double 22.3g of fat.)

I wouldn’t eat fast food. That’s just gross. But this sandwich is a GREAT idea. I think I’m going to make one of those! minus that breaded part.
